Welsh eco-build aim backed

Over 40 bodies have signed up to a pledge that is set to see homes
in Wales being built to the highest ecological standards.
The agreement is to back the Welsh assembly government's aim of
establishing a carbon-free built environment and today the Town and
Country Planning Association (TCPA) announced it is signing up to
it.
Other organisations to have done so include the design commission
for Wales, the National House Building Council, Federation of
Master Builders and CBI Wales.
Commenting on this support, Welsh assembly environment minister
Jane Davidson noted that 45 per cent of all emissions in Wales come
from buildings and stated: "It is vital that all our new buildings
are energy-efficient and as green as possible."
Such moves could mean that first-time buyers moving into affordable
new homes get to live in the greenest properties it is possible to
achieve.
Yesterday the assembly announced an £80 million scheme to
construct 400 eco-friendly homes across 22 sites in Wales.
